🌱 The Minor ROot and Tuber crops fostering AgrobiodiversiTy and Ecosystem Services (ROTATES) project is officially underway!
On 7–8 July, partners from across Europe gathered in Montpellier for a vibrant Kick-Off Meeting, marking the launch of this Horizon Europe initiative focused on agrobiodiversity, ecosystem services and crop diversification.
ROTATES aims to introduce and promote minor starchy root and tuber crops (MRT) such as sweet potato, yams, cassava and taro into European farming systems. These underutilised crops hold significant potential to meet rising demand, enhance biodiversity and reduce import dependence. Through a multi-actor and multidisciplinary approach, the project will:
âś…Identify levers for MRT adoption across the value chain
âś…Develop agroecological practices like crop rotation and intercropping
âś…Establish breeding hubs and clean seed systems
âś…Innovate food and feed transformation processes
âś…Empower farmers through marketing and capacity-building
We’re excited to rotate toward a more resilient and diverse agricultural future!
Let’s get started!
